bach pas de deux

BACH PAS DE DEUX was created in 2023 for the program Choreographers of the Estonian National Ballet that took place in the Kammer Saal of Rahvusooper Estonia.

"This duet is for sure the most classical choreography I’ve ever made. I wanted to maintain the classical structure of a Grand Pas de Deux (adagio, male solo, female solo, coda) while  trying to blend it with the more neoclassical genre of my previous choreographies, to see how far it could really go in both directions: the goal was being able to recognise my “more modern” style as well as the balletic structure of a Grand Pas.

I was inspired by several similar pieces (like Thcaikovsky PDD, Grand Pas Classique, Délibes Suite, Donizetti PDD, Adam PDD), but never had I heard of anything on Bach’s music.

It seemed just right to be creating on Bach then, considering that the vast majority of my creations to this day are on baroque music. 

Bach’s compositions are, in my opinion, some of the most fascinating pieces of music, as they contain both elements of pure classicism and modernity.

This piece is my personal homage to this brilliant composer and also to the beauty of our art form, both in its traditions and its new horizons".
